Volunteers are heroes, and we are proud to spotlight the Sexton Family for their selfless, dedicated monthly efforts to better the lives of children and families in our community.

The Partnership is thankful for the dedicated volunteers who choose to give their time and talents to further our mission and make a lasting impact for children. We greatly depend on the generosity of our volunteers to assist us in deepening the reach into the community and enable us to serve as many of our youngest citizens as possible at each event. The Sexton Family, Birgit, and her children have donated their time for many years, in particular, each month as we host the drive-thru diaper bank.

Their reason (“Our Why”), for volunteering and why they choose us to give of their most precious commodity, (time) is heartwarming and inspiring.

Our Why:

We drove along a highway, and under a bridge, my daughter saw a man sitting with all his belongings. She asked what he was doing there, and we said that he has no home. It made us (as a family) realize how fortunate we are and that we would like to impact our community by volunteering with various organizations. Eleven years later, volunteering connected us with Partnership for Children of Cumberland County. Their Vision Statement: “To live in an economically prosperous community where families are successful, and children thrive” and Mission Statement: “To achieve our vision, we will be the driving force to engage partners to achieve lasting positive outcomes for all children, beginning at birth” related to us immediately, as well as, the opportunity for younger children to volunteer. Truly, with Partnership for Children and its many programs for families and young children, we can influence lives in early stages, have a chance to give back by supporting community resources, and allows us to make a difference in people’s lives we touch. Besides giving back, all the employees of Partnership for Children are so welcoming to my children and me. We genuinely enjoy volunteering.

Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.

The Sexton family humbles us, and we can never adequately convey the gratitude we have for all of our volunteers. We could not do what we do without you. Thank you for setting the example of what it means to serve for something greater than oneself.
