Committee Description

  • The Board Development Committee members must have a minimum of two years Board experience.  
  • The Executive Director works closely with this committee to provide input on organizational needs and to identify Board leadership.
  • The Board Development Committee:
    • Identifies, recruits, and proposes directors and officers to the full Board.  
    • Leads the Board in identifying the type of directors and officers the Partnership needs.  
    • Develops written descriptions of directors and officers responsibilities and creates a plan for identifying prospective directors and officers.  
    • Plays an active part in cultivating new directors and officers; screens candidates; and recommends candidates to the full Board for approval.  
    • May plan and conduct orientation for new directors and officers, and organize continuing education programs that enhance knowledge of governance responsibilities in general and this Partnership in particular.  

Committee Meetings

  • The Board Development Committee meets quarterly from 8:45–9:45 a.m. or as called by the Vice Chair whenever it is necessary to review nominations for the Board. Prior notice is always given.

 

Role of Chair

  • Maintains order during a committee meeting. Conducts the meeting according to the agenda. Be the responsible person for presenting the committee’s report at the bimonthly Board meeting.

Role of Member

  • Attends a minimum of 80% of the Board Development Committee meetings.
  • Be prepared for meetings by reading materials prior to the meetings.  
  • RSVP prior to meeting.
  • Assists in special events, such as Smart Start Day, expos, town meetings, open houses, tours, or Tuesday’s for Tots.
  • It is the desire that all members contribute monetarily. Members need not give equal amounts but must make an equal commitment toward helping the organization provide services.

 Role of the Partnership Staff

  • Ensures that proper planning is done so issues are adequately covered in the meetings;
  • Prepares materials and forms;
  • Solicits and compiles research and promising practices; and
  • Compiles minutes that adequately reflect the committee’s findings, conclusions and recommendations.
