History
1999-2000 : A Partner of Choice
- Over 350 community residents attend the an Early Childhood
Summit, Invest in the New Millennium, hosted
byPFC, in collaboration with United Way and Bank of
America.
- The original edition of the Family Focus Guide is
printed.
- NC Ready for School Goals Team releases report defining
school readiness.
- A statewide school readiness assessment is conducted
in the fall of 2000 of North Carolina’s kindergartners
(April 2001 Summary Report – UNC Chapel Hill) that
provided a snapshot of the condition of our children
and schools across the state.
- Cumberland County hosts the First School Readiness
Symposium in conjunction with the Cumberland County Schools,
drawing on the work done by the statewide Ready For School
Goal Team who releases a report defining school readiness.
- Information Technology Service Center is created to
assist service providers and child care providers to
effectively use technology to increase the impact of
their work.
- Suite 100 of the Omni Family Resource Center is purchased;
again leveraging SMART START funds previously used for
rent.
- PFC receives a National Videographer Award for "The
Early Years Are Important: Make Them Count."
- PFC partners with Cumberland County Action Program
- Headstart in contracting with an Early Head Start Grant
consultant to develop a solid program and plan for Early
Head Start resulting in a successful grant proposal and
community collaboration.
- PFC conducts a work/family business practice assessment
with local business leaders to draft a family friendly
practice assessment. Committee members include representatives
from Cape Fear Valley Health Systems, Cumberland County,
City of Fayetteville, Time Warner Cable, Bank of America,
J. C. Penney, Kelly Springfield, Morris, Colyer & Associates,
Highland Presbyterian Church, Country-Wide Home Loans
and Sprint.
- PFC co-sponsors a Grantsmanship Workshop with Scotland
County Partnership for Children. In 1999, the Board approved providing 50% scholarship to 10 organizations
with a stipulation that they write one grant outside
of Smart Start funding by 7/1/2000. Total scholarship
value was $3,375.00. The amount of grants secured on
behalf of young children and their families was $41,672.
- PFC in collaboration with the various towns, cities and Cumberland County, invested in playgrounds designed for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
